Penrith Panthers three-quarter Tylan May, 22, has been charged with three domestic violence-related offences. The charges relate to an alleged incident on April 8, 2024, in which May allegedly punched a woman known to him in the face and leg. May was granted conditional bail following his arrest and is scheduled to appear in Penrith Local Court on May 28, 2024.

May has not played a match since the allegations became public just before the NRL’s Magic Round. His future in the game remains uncertain, especially considering that his older brother Tyrone May was sacked by the Panthers in 2021 due to a controversial social media post relating to a previous sex-tape scandal.
Brandon Wakeham drug charges
Brandon Wakeham, who previously played for Manly’s feeder club Blacktown, faces charges relating to drug supply. Police arrested Wakeham on May 15, 2024 and seized a kilogram of MDMA in an extensive sting operation. The charges against him include participating in the supply of a large quantity of prohibited drugs and participating in a criminal group.
Wakeham was arrested in the car park of Manly’s training base at Brookvale. During an appearance in Manly Local Court, Magistrate Robin Denness identified Wakeham as a middle or low-level member of the alleged syndicate. In a statement, the NRL stressed that the decisions regarding May and Wakeham’s suspensions should not be construed as verdicts of their guilt or innocence. “The National Rugby League (NRL) has advised Penrith Panthers player Tylan May that he is subject to a no-fault stand-down condition under the NRL rules. The NRL has also advised Manly Warringah Sea Eagles player Brandon Wakeham that he is subject to a no-fault stand down condition under the NRL rules,” the statement said.
Impact on their teams
The suspensions of May and Wakeham are a major blow to their respective teams. The Penrith Panthers, who dropped May ahead of their Magic Round loss to the Warriors, will have to move forward this season without one of their key players. Similarly, the Manly Sea Eagles are facing disruptions from Wakeham’s absence, especially given the severity of the charges against him.
