The Pakistani entertainment industry mourned the demise of veteran actor Talat Hussain, who passed away at the age of 83 after a prolonged illness. He was laid to rest at DHA Phase 8 graveyard in Karachi on Sunday. His funeral prayers were offered at Ayesha Mosque, Khayaban-e-Ittehad, which was attended by many artistes, relatives, fans and a large number of people from the Pakistani showbiz industry.

Hussain’s career spanned several decades and he was known for his versatile acting across various mediums. He appeared in several notable films, including the Indian film “Sautan Ki Beti” and the Norwegian film “Import-Export”. Some of his most famous films were “Chirag Jalta Raha”, “Gumnaam”, “Insaan Aur Aadmi”, “Jinnah – The Movie”, “Laaj” and “Qurbani”.

Born in Delhi, India, Talat Hussain’s family moved to Pakistan in 1947. He married Rakhshanda, who is a professor at Karachi University, in 1972. His journey in the entertainment industry began with his first television drama, “Arjumand”. To hone his skills, Hussain moved to England to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Contribution to religious narratives
Apart from acting, Talat Hussain also made significant contributions to religious narration. In the early 1970s, he recited the entire Holy Quran in Urdu, which was commercially produced on audiotapes and CDs. He also lent his voice to the character of Jesus in the Urdu dubbed version of the famous film “Jesus”.
Educational contributions
Hussain was very dedicated to arts and education. He worked with the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) in Karachi and contributed to the training and development of future generations of actors and artists.
